AKA "The Special One". José is the only character who has appeared in every episode of the show except the specials but his puppet did not appear in special 1 tv episode 5 but his voice was. Self-assured and arrogant, he is the anchor of the "news program," reads viewer emails, takes phone calls on the air, and introduces video segments. José, who refers himself as the "Special One" often hypes himself up using phrases like "I'm fantastic". He is also particularly blunt, and often tells participants to "shut up." The show always ends with the line, usually spoken by José, "Be champions." In the second series, José called "Big Boss" (Roman Abramovich) after the show asking him to give him his old job at Chelsea back as Fabio had been 'rotating' Sven and Wayne and, in other occasion, punked him whilst the show was on air, among other general intervening in his show. These aftershow calls continued until a "Great Debate" was held and Fabio's role was removed.

AKA "It". Introduced midway through the first season, Sven is José's sidekick and foil. Hapless, insecure, and slow-witted, Sven does whatever José tells him to do, no matter how humiliating. In various episodes, Sven has dressed as a pimp, played piano and guitar, and been forced to perform as "The Gimp" from the movie Pulp Fiction. Sven is often confused forWillie Nelson, as the outfit he wore while introducing the "Wayne's Word" segment outraged a one-time telephone guest, "Willie," who complained about his 'impersonator.' He frequently begins his sentences with "well" and "very good".

At the beginning of Season two, Sven, who in real life had signed for Mexico, is seen dressed in colorful Mexican garb, with a colorful piñata llama and common Mexican wide-brim hat. In the film special, Sven watched When Harry Met Sally. In Season Two, Sven also visited the jungle for three days. In the time he spent there, he was caught by José sleeping in the same tent as Ant and Dec and was coerced into eating platypus anus.

Following his sacking as manager of Mexico, he is regularly seen touting for work. He was once seen wearing a Sunderland jersey, stroking a black cat (alluding to Sunderland's nickname 'The Black Cats') and saying 'away the lads' in a faux-Northern English accent. He was also then seen on a phone inquiring about jerseys (ie jobs). When offered a Manchester City jersey, he declines, saying he had one before, but it didn't fit him, in reference to his previous tenure as Manchester City boss, when he was sacked after one season. He is also seen wearing aPortsmouth jersey, in reference to speculation he was to take that job following the departure of Tony Adams. He is then seen inquiring on the phone about a job advertised in the Evening Chronicle, a newspaper in England's northeast. After being told the job has been filled, he says to wish Shearer the best of luck. Most recently he has even dressed as a Mountie in reference to the vacant coaching job at Toronto FC.

AKA "The Boy". Introduced as Jose's second "signing" near the end of the first season. Wayne is child-like, brilliant, and incredibly talented in ventriloquism (with a puppet of Ronaldo known as "Ronnie-puppet"), chess, vocabulary, blindfolded Rubik's Cube, keepy-uppies, singing the first line to "Ave Maria", and playing the violin amongst other things. Wayne is adored by The Special One, and his addition to the show overshadows the hapless Sven and leads to jealous outbursts. Wayne often says "Me like" or "That's brilliant that is" when he is impressed with something.

At the beginning of season two, Wayne was seen in a full-body disease quarantine bag, a reference to his real life, where he was out for two weeks with a virus. He tells David that it was not malaria. Later on in the second series, Wayne hosted the "Great Debate" between José and Fabio. He later shaved his hair off, to once again resemble his human counterpart.

Unlike the other characters on the show, Wayne's voice is not an impersonation, but is high-pitched and childish, and with an exaggerated scouse accent.

AKA "Cabbageman". Fabio Capello was a caller towards the end of the season in series one, calling to comment in his native Italian language. In season two, episode four was interrupted by an emergency press conference with Fabio announcing himself as the show's new director. He had previously been seen watching and calling the show from his living room. José was annoyed as he was to announce another new signing shortly afterwards, and Fabio might disrupt this plan. Fabio's role reflects a current situation in real-life football regarding directors of football and the board disrupting the managerial role, despite the fact that he was introduced before the situations at Newcastle and West Ham became apparent. In episode 7, Fabio punk'd José, with the help of Sven, Wayne and Sir Alex. José procceded to once again complain to Big Boss, stating he would put up with it no more. After the "Great Debate", it was decided by viewers of the show that José, and not Fabio, should keep their role on the show. He has been less involved, although in the "I'm A Swede Get Me Out of Here!" episode, Fabio had an interview with José in the England dressing room which was used by José as an excuse to catch up with his former Chelsea players Frank and John, and recently appeared in the "Setanta Sports Manager of the Year 2008" episode defeating José for that "honour" much to The Special One's surprise.

Barack

In the 14th episode of Special 1 TV, Barack Obama was announced as Jose's new signing for the start of next season. In his introductory address, he comments on the fact that he is a fan of West Ham. This is a reference to the real life Obama, who has been a fan of the London club since a visit to England five years before his election as President.
